Military History Tours          On Tour - Western Front Extention Tour 9 May 2015

This morning we woke to the bells from Amiens Cathedral which was it seems the cathedral wishing us well as we left France and headed into Belgium. On the way north we called into Vimy, the major Canadian action of the War where the 4 Canadian Divisions fought together and cleared the feature. The Memorial is one of the most graphic on the Western Front and upon it are inscribed over 11, 000 names of Canadian soldiers who have no known grave on the Western Front.

We continued north to the New Fromelles Cemetery but first Garry and I took Janet Holloway to a Cemetery near Bully where the friend's relative was buried. Very hard to find as the cemetery is surrounded by houses and is located down a dirt track.

We joined the coaches at the Cobber Memorial just in time to hear Doc Newman reading a particular piece that was close to his heart and was very moving and memorable.

Lunch at Le Trou Aide Post Cemetery before heading to our hotel in Kortrijk where we settled before heading into Ieper for dinner and our visit to the Menin Gate Service.

The Service was like always, excellent and better for we had a Welsh Male Choir singing at the Service. Our wreath was carried by 4 members of our group who had family lost during the War in Belgium. After the Service we returned to our hotel for tomorrow is our last day out on the Battlefields of Flanders.
