2 May 2017 – THE SOMME:
After breakfast we set off again but this time the areas we visit were in 1917, not scarred by lines of trenches while barbed wire was in place only around the German held villages. These were the outpost villages of the Hindenburg Line and the actions were over rolling ground, with its buildings, sunken roads, hedges and farms. Beugny, Velu, Morchies, Lagnicourt, Noreuill and Longatte were just a few of the villages fought over during this advance to Bullecourt. B/L/D
3 May 2017 – THE SOMME:
Even though the battles at Bullecourt were fought over many weeks, this day was special as after an hour the Australians held half their objectives in the Hindenburg Line.
100 years after our soldiers fought so gallantly over these very fields, we will walk the battlefield, hold our own short service at the Australian Memorial and visit the town's Museum.B/L/D
