Military History Tours On Tour - RAAF in the UK 5 July 2011
Well another special day was had by all. The day started at the RAF Cosford Museum. An unbelievable display of past and current aircraft.
Following our visit we headed north towards York where we will be for 2 days. On our way we endevoured to find a couple of sites where Fathers of those on the tour had served.
Our first stop was RAF Snaith where Tony Todd's father had served. We were surprised as we found an unbelievable site with many memorial plaques allocated to those who had operated from here. The site it seems has been established and maintained by the company that currently owns the land, Kelkay Ltd.
We held a small memorial service at the site and Tony laid a poppy on the memorial following our service.
Leaving Snaith, we headed into Selby as a member needed to check whether there were any remains of the original colours that had been laid up in the Abbey.
It did take us some time to gain entry as there were people inside practising as part of the choir. Gaining entry we proceeded to locate the colours within the Abbey. The Abbey was built in 1069 only 3 years after the Battle of Hastings.
We then proceeded to our hotel which is located virtually under the walls of the members.
