Military History Tours          On Tour - Egypt and Libya - 22 March 2010

After that special day in El Alamein we enjoyed breakfast and headed further west towards the Libyan Border. As we travelled westwards we passed over the areas occupied by the Africa Corps as it waited for the onslaught out of the El Alamein position.

We visited the cave that Rommel used for his headquarters when in this area. The cave has a very old history and was originally cut in the Roman era. Inside the cave is a small museum and has a number of artifacts belonging to Rommel that had been given to the Museum by his son.

We pushed on to Mersa Matruh and when near selected a vantage point to discuss that action that Rommel won due to the ineptitude of the Corps Commander Gott, who nearly lost an army.

We moved into Mersa Matruh for another night to make and mend for tomorrow we cross into Libya.

Unless otherwise noted battle and battlefield descriptions are prepared jointly by the Military History Tours Historians, as are the photographs.
