This has been the day that we all gather in Cairo prior to our move up to Alexandria. We were met at the airport and those arriving early were taken to the NOVOTEL Hotel for a comfort wait until the arrival of the later flights.
At 1330 we were finally all together and headed north to Alexandria 220Klms distant.
Alexandria is Egypt’s second largest city with up to 5 million people. It is the window to the Mediterranean and a busy port. Established by Alexander the Great in 331 BC and conquered by many over the decades from Romans to Arabs, Napoleon to the British and was a major city behind the Desert Campaign.
We have arrived at the Sofitel Hotel in Alexandria. The hotel was built in 1929 as the Hotel Cecil.
It was used during the war as accommodation for officers. It has recently been refurbished to a standard similar to that as when it was built.
After settling into our hotel we were able to freshen up prior to dinner in our hotel.
Tomorrow we will be taken to some of the Historical Monuments of Alexandria.
