Military History Tours On Tour - Bomber Command (RAAF in the UK) 14 July 2013
Today we were at the airshow at Duxford, the Flying Legends. This is the day all the WW2 and lead period planes are flying. One of the highlights was the arrival of the Lancaster with a Hurricane escort.
A very hot day and around 200,000 were in attendance, a good day was had by all. It was a very tiring time in the heat and you can see Barbara Marks and Alan Berry resting after the show while waiting for us to regather and head to our coach.
Following the show we headed into Cambridge to visit the Commonwealth War Graves Section of Cambridge City Cemetery. We wanted to find and pay our respects at two graves one of which, R L Pope was a brother of Peter Pope who is on our tour. We conducted a small service and paid our respects to the whole crew who had perished with RL Pope in the Lancaster. A very moving moment.
