On the first day of our trip we are gathering at the Concorde Hotel - Orchard Rd Singapore. Half our guests arrived Friday & Saturday and the remainder should check in today.
Historians John and Alistair spent Saturday reviewing some of the sites we are planning to visit; there are plenty of areas we can't go to, as much of Singapore's West Coast is a military training area. As much of Singapore is extensively developed, it can be very difficult to locate the sites where the Australian 8th Division fought the battle, however there are some good sites at the North Western corner of the Island.
The Concorde Hotel is well located at one end of the famous Orchard Rd shopping area - we are close to Fort Canning and Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station and it is easy to get around. Many of our guests have been here before.
On Saturday Evening we met the Brown party from WA and spent some time on researching family links to the Singapore Campaign. After breakfast this morning we met the Cooks, who's father was in the 2/20th Battalion and was a POW in Japan for most of the war. We will meet some other guests this evening and be all ready for a full day out tomorrow.
