Military History Tours          On Tour - Bomber Command (RAAF in the UK) 21 July 2015

The night before all in our group joined me at the Skinners Arms Pub for a drink and dinner together before we went our ways. Some will join the Eurostar to Paris, others will see London from the air as they leave for home or other destinations and some will remain in London or the UK and the photo depicting those staying is of the St Pancras Hotel, built in 1896 and recently refurbished.

It was a fitting way to end our time together, a time that had bonded us into a close knit team of which our driver, Ray, was an important and integral member. Ray couldn't join us for dinner this last time as he had duties himself returning the coach to its haven for a well deserved rest. Our coach had served us very well slipping down those very narrow lanes, hedged tracks, motorways, city roads and driving around perimeter tracks on airfields. Now to rest and to prepare for new adventures.

After dinner we returned to our hotel, Pullman St Pancras and planned to meet for breakfast next morning. This we did and following breakfast we bid each other farewell, but we will remain in contact as we had done much together including visiting 25 airfields.

Des and I made our way to Heathrow but most of the other members of the group were doing other things including further tours and a family reunion in Yorkshire. I departed the Tube at Terminal 3 and Des went on to Terminal 5.

I am writing these final words in Helsinki on my journey home, it is 2300 and the sun is still above the horizon.

Bomber Command 2015 has now completed and on a very high note.
