Military History Tours          On Tour - Bomber Command (RAAF in the UK) 18 July 2014

This was our longest day, from 0800 to 2200 when we arrived at our hotel in Salisbury. We left Wolverhampton after the one night and headed south towards Salisbury, but first we ventured off the main road and meandered through the Cotswolds. The small villages were really quaint in their gold coloured stone work. We pulled up at a small village named Burford which was very beautiful indeed. The Pub, The Cotswold Arms, was open and all had a drink which allowed a break from travelling. We stayed around 40 min before heading off again and this time we stopped in a small valley where trout are kept in ponds surrounded by beautiful gardens. This was Bibury.

Following that stop we continued to Aston Down and the Cotswold Gliding Club. The Club had arranged a wonderful lunch and following lunch, 3 members of our party were able to go Gliding in two seated gliders where an instructor piloted the plane but once aloft our three fellows were able to take the stick and control the glider themselves. All had an excellent time.

We continued on our way south, but first called in to Leighterton to pay our respects to those men lost while training to be pilots in the first World War. We proceeded along our route and called into an airfieldAll had a wonderful day aloft, a chance of a lifetime. where John's father had served flying Spitfires at Hullavington. We then headed south again. As it was very late when we arrived at our hotel, we went straight to dinner.

All had a wonderful day aloft, a chance of a lifetime.
