Military History Tours          On Tour - Bomber Command (RAAF in the UK) 13 July 2014

This was the Duxford Air Show and we left the hotel at 0915 and headed towards the site where we will be watching the veteran aircraft actually fly and show their speed and climbing rate.

But first we were able to walk down the flight line on the tarmac to view the planes prior to the start of the flying display. Following that viewing we had many hangars full of planes to attract our attention. The displays were incredible and it was interesting to see many planes hanging from the ceiling of the various display hangars.

There were many stalls for people to purchase items of interest including, books, flight jackets, binoculars and many other items associated with aeroplanes etc.

Then to the reason most attend, the flying legends. 10 Spitfires and 2 hurricanes started the proceedings. There were 4 Mark 1 Spitfires flying, this was the first time that there had ever been 4 flying together since the War. 2 had actually been shot down in the War and now rebuilt 40 years later. They were followed by most of the fighters in the war then the B17 and B25 took to the air. The highlight was the arrival of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, the Lancaster escorted by the 2 hurricanes.

The flying display was concluded by a massed fly past. We then gathered our bits and pieces and headed out to our coach for our trip back to Bedford and our hotel. Tomorrow we head north to Lincoln and the BBMF location.
