Military History Tours On Tour - Bomber Command (RAAF in the UK) 10 July 2015
This day is the officially recognised day for the start of the Battle of Britain. It was our day to leave London and head up country to visit the many Museums and other interesting sites.
We started the day visiting Hendon Museum. On our arrival we are greeted by Peter Devitt Assistant Curator. Originally it was proposed that Peter would spend a few minutes welcoming us but he stayed with us for over 2 hours and spent that time enthralling us with his knowledge associated with Bomber Command campaign and other aspects of the War in the air.
We were taken though the Museum and in particular shown the new displays that have been established in the First World War area and the Battle of Britain area. These new displays are an improvement on previous high quality displays. Time after time over the years that I have visited this Museum there have been improvements to the displays that previously were of such a high standard and I thought did not need to be changed. Those changes certainly have further improved the message that the Museum is trying to take its visitors.
After such an enjoyable visit we thanked Peter and headed north to Bedford where we will base ourselves for further days visiting the Museums close by. Tomorrow is one of the highlights of our tour as we attend the Air Show at Duxford.
