Military History Tours On Tour - Our Other ANZAC Day Tour 28 April 2014
Today we said goodbye to tour 1 who departed for Paris. Our group of 14, Tour 2 headed north to Belgium. Our first visit was to Vimy Ridge, overlooking Lens, site of the Canadian Memorial. The area surrounding the memorial remains covered in obvious shell holes plus some larger craters resulting from underground mine explosions. We next found the new Pheasant Wood Cemetery at Fromelles, established recently after the discovery of a mass grave nearby. Close to Fromelles we also viewed the 'cobber' memorial and VC Corner Cemetery before stopping for a bite at Le Trou aid post cemetery. The day was becoming sunny and warm as we departed for a presentation at Messiness - slightly delayed as we had to avoid the town due to Market Day. We have just arrived at the Albion Hotel and most have decided to take a stroll around the town centre to enjoy the afternoon sun.
