Military History Tours On Tour - Fromelles and Pozičres Centenary 18 July 2016
A great day.
We started out at Messines where Graham gave a presentation on the battle. Hill 60 followed where John took the group through the site, including visits to the memorials and concrete bunker.
At Polygon Wood we met the young Australian Soldiers who will take part in the ANZAC Centenary commemorations at Fromelles and Pozieres.
At Polygon Wood we did something special, the Band practiced for the Menin Gate service this evening then we had a special service for the Zonnebeke 5; the soldiers whose remains were found in a common grave. The Band played and volunteers from the group laid poppies on the graves and said a prayer.
Then to Tyne Cott, the largest Commonwealth War Graves cemetery and a discussion of the Passchendaele battle.
Back early, band members prepared for the Menin Gate service. At the service, the roof of the Menin Gate was all but raised.
