Military History Tours          On Tour - Our Other ANZAC Day 23 April 2012

On Sunday evening we found the culinary delights of Paris in the street side restaurants.

After assembling at the Mercure Paris Opera Garnier Hotel, we boarded our coach at 0930.

We eventually got out of Paris and headed north on the A1 motorway. The weather is un-seasonally cold and wet.

At the rest stop of Aire de Service de Ressons we had a morning tea break.

In the early afternoon we arrived at the All Seasons at Assevillers. The hotel had especially decorated the foyer with Australian flags. We had a refreshing welcoming drink before heading off to the Museum of the Great War in Peronne.

After a warm welcome from the Director, we viewed the exhibits including the special new exhibition of  'The Missing of the Somme'. This exhibition had only opened on the previous Friday. For each day of the battle, a separate item for one missing British soldier was displayed. This included photographs and a brief autobiography. The names of the soldiers were selected from the names on the British Memorial at Thiepval.

We viewed the exhibits in the sunken display cases. After a walk around the centre of Peronne, we returned for a special meal at the Museum overlooking a bend in the Somme.
