Military History Tours          Le Hamel Centenary Tour 1 July 2018

A beautiful sunny for us to start our tour. First stop was Le Hamel, we had to discuss the battle there early in our touring time as later it will be under security restrictions due to the Governor General’s visit.

Le Hamel discussed we proceeded to the Australian National Memorial at Fiolley. Jenifer’s ancestor Harold William Richards is buried in the cemetery, Jenifer was able to lay a floral tribute.

Cinthia's ancestor John Francis Thompson has no known grave he is commemorated on the memorial wall, Cinthia was able to lay a tribute.

Lunch was at the Sir John Monash Centre Café followed by a visit to the active tribute to Australians who fought in France 1916-1918 housed in the centre. Then to another battlefield description, this time the action by Brigadier General Elliot’s 15 Brigade at Villers-Bretonneux on 24/25 April 1918.

A run to Peronne had us booked into our rooms, then ready to visit that city’s Great War Museum. All were impressed, in particular with the Australian room.
