Military History Tours          Beersheba Centenary Tour 23 October 2017

Our first day of touring was very special. A quality breakfast followed by a leisurely check-out. On the bus we heard about the organisation of the British, Australian and New Zealand Army in Palestine 1916-18. Our local guides then proving to have an encyclopaedic knowledge of local history and culture. Our next destination was Mount Carmel where the Battle for Haifa was described in detail; including the role of the Mysore and Jodhpur (Pakistani) Lancers, and the Australian Light Car Patrol.

Lunch was at a Druze restaurant on Mt Carmel, where the quality and quantity of the food was amazing.

After Lunch we visited the Haifa World War 1 Commonwealth War Graves cemetery. It was the first time for many to visit a special CWG site where Pakistani Hindu and Moslem soldiers are buried. The British Australian and New Zealand site having graves of soldiers killed at Tzemach, the place where the 11 ALHR charged, that we will visit in a couple of days. At the grave of Trooper AJ Terry, an 18 year old from Newcastle NSW, we held a quite moving ceremony in his memory.

We checked into our hotel at around 1600, plenty of time for many of our guests to go for a swim in the Mediterranean.
